How to Maximize the Impact of Your Anti-Wrinkle Treatments: Tips and Strategies

Whether you are looking to impact the longevity of your anti-wrinkle injections or if you are looking at how you can achieve the best possible skin quality before upping' your game, here you'll find a few gems.

I know all too well that the frozen shiny foreheads of the bygone era still haunt your subconscious when I mention anti-wrinkle- little secret? that's the technique, doses, and preference at fault- not the product!

Did you know that the medical field has enlisted the help of Botulinum toxin A for years? These indications include chronic migraines (2010), overactive bladder, hyperhidrosis (excess sweating), and upper limb spasticity, with a handful of off-label uses.

This is one of my all-time fave treatments for giving a fresh, well-rested, healthy appearance and news flash...I still have expressions- because that is how I like my result to be. The majority of my clients are public facing therefore their expressions matter, its part of their communication tool bag.

So now I've put a couple of myths to bed- it's not a one-size-fits-all, wham bam thank you, mam approach! let's get into how we can maximize the results, impact and longevity of this treatment along with some of the key treatments I recommend to get your skin in good nick- especially if you're on the fence about getting anti-wrinkle treatment.

Oral Zinc supplements

Studies have suggested that taking zinc supplementation may impact/ extend the efficacy of anti-wrinkle treatment by up to 30%. However, larger clinical trials must be conducted whilst employing objective management tools to define the exact role and efficacy of oral zinc supplementation in maximizing the botulinum neurotoxin effect.

Microneedling & anti-wrinkle treatments

Micro-needling or percutaneous collagen induction is a treatment provided using a handheld medical grade/ CE marked device, micro needles are used to create micro trauma (painless), The damage helps stimulate your skin’s healing process, so it produces more collagen and elastin. These resulting proteins keep your skin firm and smooth. This is the perfect treatment for the face, thigh, neck, and décolleté to improve

  • Enlarged pores.

  • Fine lines or wrinkles.

  • Loose or crepey (thin and wrinkled) skin.

  • Mild scarring- acne or burns.

  • Uneven skin tone.

  • Stretch marks.

The procedure can also help people who have medical conditions such as Alopecia areata.

This is a bio-stimulator, whilst we all have depleting collagen stores as we age, this boosts our reserves- maintenance treatments should be a part of your healthy skin regime.

If you are taking isotretinoin, you must wait at least one month after your last dose/ application. All treatment options should come with a face-to-face consultation covering past medical history and current medication regime before being undertaken. Not suitable for every individual.

Dermalux Phototherapy

We all know by now that I love this device and science with a burning passion- because it delivers! Incorporating this into your routine will provide overall health and vitality to your skin from the deeper layers to the surface.

It is scientifically proven for a wide range of indications including skin rejuvenation, acne and pigmentation wound healing, psoriasis, and pain relief.  Well-proven for its regenerative and healing properties, phototherapy does not transfer heat or create injury, making it particularly effective in treating problematic and inflammatory conditions.

Superficial chemical peels

No, we don't always mean visible shedding of the skin, different peels impact the skin differently for example Phenol peels are strictly for the cosmetic/ plastic surgeons out there. We are talking gentle chemical exfoliation, sloughing away the dull redundant cells, giving you an instant glow with zero downtime. It is on the horizon to bring to you a slightly more intense peel to attack things like acne scars and hyperpigmentation- keep your eyes (and skin) peeled!

HINT: Treat yourself to a peel before your anti-wrinkle treatment.

Currently, in the clinic, we use the FILLmed range, and this is what they have to say...

Blending efficacy with gentle care, our product is an optimal choice for those with sensitive skin, thanks to the presence of gluconolactone. This remarkable compound is the lactone form of gluconic acid, derived from glucose through bio-oxidation. Its cyclic chemical structure imparts a keratolytic action that rivals the effectiveness of AHAs, yet it is better tolerated. When synergistically combined with other active ingredients, it not only reinforces therapeutic benefits but also enhances overall skin tolerance, resulting in improved and well-tolerated outcomes.

Skin Care & SPF!

It's no good spending your hard-earned money on expensive treatments when you aren't taking good care of your skin at home.

Baby wipes are a no-go!

Face/hair/arse wash all in 1, 6 in 12 - you know the ones, no go!

Soap and water, no go!

It doesn't have to cost the Earth but equally, it shouldn't strip your skin barrier and it should be of epic quality- my faves are La Roche Posay, CeraVe and of course, our medical-grade skincare line of choice within the clinic is the Dr Zein Obagi ZO.

At the very least you need a cleanser suited to your skin type and concerns, a good moisturiser- yes that includes if you have oily skin and an SPF. I don't care if it's blowing a gale, overcast, grey dull, and miserable like your soul on a Monday morning- you put that SPF on. UVAgeing, UVBurning. Then we consider serums such as VitC and retinol (read my blog all about retinol, it doesn't have to be scary).

If you are struggling with what products would suit you best if you have sensitive, eczema or psoriasis-prone skin, redness/ rosacea, have 'age spots' or melasma then come into the clinic and take advantage of our skin analysis scanner so we can get a real in-depth look at what your skin is crying out for. No gimmicks just science.

Have a better idea of how to get the most out of your anti-wrinkle treatment now?

Your skin is an investment, and so are the treatments you undertake. Make the most of each treatment and get clued up to ensure the best possible outcomes. As always it's simply about education.

I want you to go away and throw away all of the gimmicky out of date questionable serums lotions and potions and hone in on what your skin needs, secondly, I want you to book your skin consultation with me so we can get your gorgeous, healthy well-nourished skin showcasing your investments.

All of these treatments must be carried out by a trained registered professional, a consultation should always take place to include a full medical and medication background to determine your suitability for treatment.

Much love,

Jess.
